Sam Olivieri

Drums & Percussion

Sam Olivieri joined the VAS team in 2020 as a teacher of Drums and Percussion, bringing with him over 40 years of rich experience as a music teacher, performer, conductor, and musical director. Known for his dedication and passion for teaching, Sam tailors his educational approaches to fit individual learning styles, ensuring both enjoyment and discipline in his students' musical development.

Education

Sam Olivieri has honed his drumming skills under the guidance of distinguished Australian instructors such as Peter Blick, Graham Morgan, Ray Rafaelle, and Ray Pereira. He holds a Diploma of Music from La Trobe University and a Bachelor of Music Industry from RMIT. Additionally, Sam has completed a Bachelor of Education at Melbourne University, blending his musical expertise with a strong foundation in education.

Skills and Experience

Sam Olivieri has amassed extensive teaching experience over the past 30 years, working as a sessional teacher, musical director, and private instructor in secondary schools. His performance career spans the globe, including work with cover bands, corporate events, jazz ensembles, tribute shows, cruise ships, and television appearances. Sam is currently studying Latin percussion with the renowned master Conguero, Havier Fredes. His dedication to student development and educational excellence was recognized with the VAS Teacher of the Year award in 2022.

Interests

In his leisure time, Sam continues to engage in learning, currently focusing on Latin percussion, alongside enjoying family time.
